Luke Howell, DO
Dr. Luke Howell was born and raised in southwest Michigan before his family moved south to North Carolina. He then attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN where he graduated with a BS in Biology with plans of pursuing the practice of medicine. He met his wonderful wife, Sarah, while at Bryan and they were married after graduating together. They moved back to North Carolina and worked for a year before starting medical school at VCOM in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Dr. Howell was a member of the Student American Academy of Osteopathy as well as the treasurer for the student chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He received the Outstanding Medical Student Award in Pediatrics during his clerkship rotation at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. And he was also inducted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society during his fourth year of medical school.
He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. During his residency he was a member of the Leadership and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine tracks. He was elected as Educational Chief Resident during his final year of training.
During medical school and residency, the Howell family grew with the additions of two kids, Dawson and Anne Marie. Besides enjoying time with his family, Dr. Howell is also an enthusiastic board game player. He has been passionate about Direct Primary Care during his residency and is thrilled to be joining the team at Pillar Primary Care!
