Katherine Restrepo (@kstrep44) offers up a well thought out policy paper from the John Locke Foundation on how Direct Primary Care offers better options for healthcare at a better value.  DPC has been shown to improve access times and pathways via small patient panels and direct phone/electronic communication.  This in turns allows patients with chronic illnesses to seek care more frequently and at less out of pocket costs.
Consider this simple comparison:

  • The average time it takes to get an appointment with an insurance based physician: 19.5 days with a range of 5 to 66 days.
  • The average wait time to get an appointment with a Direct Primary Care physician is measured in hours not days.
